FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP/KMOX) — The Army is looking for a few good drill sergeants.

Six order-barking men and women have been invited to Fort Jackson to compete  in a week-long best drill sergeant challenge, starting Monday. All have deployed to combat zones such as Iraq, Afghanistan or even Haiti.

Representing Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri is Staff Sergeant Benjamin Facio, a native of Lakewood, California. Facio was recently named the 2011 Drill Sgt. of the Year at Ft. Leonard Wood.

Officials say the two female and four male drill sergeants earned a place in the competition by winning local contests at Army installations in four states.

The drill sergeants will be judged on a punishing round of about 50 events, ranging from physical fitness tests to situations where they instruct soldiers on tasks like throwing grenades or organizing recruit runs while calling the cadence.

One winner from active duty and one from the reserve ranks will be announced Friday.
