ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) - A religious organization and a major St. Louis hotel are flashing a red light to human trafficking.
The Sisters of St. Joseph will meet next month at the Millenium hotel, which will sign a code of conduct against human trafficking. Sister Cathy McClusky, executive director of the federation, said the sisters searched for a hotel that already had such a policy in place, but could not find one.
McClusky said that although some victims of human trafficking are kept in houses, hotels remain hot spots for perpetrators of these crimes.
“[Hotels are] a temporary place that people can move through, and that those that engage in the trade of peddling women can set up shop,” McClusky said.
The Millenium’s new code is voluntary, and includes training for staff to identify signs of human trafficking.
