Now we’ve learned that Friday, the St. Louis City Board of Aldermen will get it’s first look at a plan to tear down the distinctive Del Taco building on Grand.

The redevelopment bill would classify the area as “blighted” and allow developers to raze the structure.  The measure would also provide up to ten years of real estate tax abatement.

Revelations of the plan to demolish the saucer-shaped building sparked the posting of a facebook page Tuesday night that’s gained hundreds of followers.

If developers want to knock it down to put something better in its place, that’s fine — but don’t give them tax abatements to do it. Either the plan stands on its own or it doesn’t. Enough with the damned handouts.

  6. Kevin Schneider says:

This building is in the 19th ward and the alderwoman is Marlene Davis. Aldermen from across the city vote on it though.
