KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) __ A 43-year-old Kansas City man with a lengthy criminal record has been sentenced to 15 years without parole in federal prison for possessing one bullet.

U.S. Attorney Beth Phillips says Steven Roberts admitted in February he was in possession of one round of 9mm ammunition when he was arrested in August 2009 after a short foot chase in Kansas City.

Roberts was sentenced Wednesday as an armed career criminal because of prior felony convictions for burglary and child abuse. It’s illegal under federal law for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to possess firearms or ammunition.

Police reported finding a Makarov 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, some methamphetamine and marijuana when they searched the area through which they chased Roberts.
