Pixar’s “Cars 2” Keeps’em Rolling
Lots of action and a story of international intrigue…of the animated 3-D variety, of course…makes “Cars 2” an entertaining film for the family and a nice contrast from the first effort, albeit the storyline maybe a little too frenetic for the very small kids to follow..
Our 4 wheel adventurous head out of Radiator Springs for Europe and Japan in this installment. They are going to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix where the winning vehicle earns the title of world’s fastest car. Of course, complications pop up, mostly of the espionage type, but this little film series has always been about American values and believing in yourself, so never fear for our little speed demon heroes.
The role of Mater, the rusty tow truck, dominates this script. That role is voiced by Larry the Cabel Guy (real name: Daniel Whitney) and I found that a little annoying in that you sometimes hear so much of his twangy delivery it starts to get annoying. Other vocal talent in the “Cars 2” cast include Michael Caine, Owen Wilson, Emily Mortimer, Eddie Izzard and John Turturro.
The Cars films don’t represent Pixar’s best use of their vaulted animated style, and indeed in this film have a somewhat old-fashioned animation look from time to time, vintage Ray Bluth. But “Cars 2” is still very well worth a drive to your local movie theater.
Just don’t make a race out of it.
