CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — A former St. Louis-area trash collector has been sentenced to five years of probation after admitting he stole Christmas tips that customers intended for their regular collectors.
43-year-old Johnny Goodrich of Spanish Lake pleaded guilty in St. Louis County Circuit Court to a felony count of stealing.
Authorities say he stole cash and gift cards that residents had attached to trash containers throughout the St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield last December.
Police were notified of the thefts after some Chesterfield residents discovered their gifts were never received by their weekly haulers.
Investigators say they caught Goodrich with $630 in cash and $108 in gift cards.
