Pavement damage from heavy rains
ST. LOUIS – MoDOT has reopened all lanes and ramps on eastbound I-70 between Shreve and West Florissant.
Emergency crews completed the pavement repairs where they removed pavement from the interstate and re-built this section in one day. Two lanes were closed in this section of I-70 on Sunday and Monday following severe rain early Sunday morning. Pressure from the heavy rains caused a sewer structure under the pavement to buckle, and that pressure ruptured the pavement. The entrance ramp to eastbound I-70 from Shreve/Bircher was also closed.
MoDOT and emergency crews responded immediately after the incident occurred. “We made excellent progress in completing the repairs on I-70 within 72 hours of the incident,” said Deanna Venker, MoDOT Area Engineer for St. Louis City. “We thank motorists for helping us minimize traffic congestion in this area by using alternate routes and adjusting their travel times.”
