Man Charged in Mascoutah Standoff

MASCOUTAH, IL. (KMOX) – Officials have charged a 45 year old man in connection with a stand off in Mascoutah, Illinois.

45 year old John Baker was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and wreckless discharge of a firearm.

Baker had been asked to leave a home on West Main Street by his roommate.  He fired several shots and barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom.

Some 30 police officers from Madison, St. Clair, Clinton and Monroe counties surrounded the home and sent a robot inside with a camera.  Once they located Baker in the bedroom they threw pepper spray into the home and Baker surrendered.

Police say he has a criminal record involving firearms.
