When the overture begins for The Muny’s production of “The Little Mermaid” Wednesday night at 8:15, it will be the first time Disney has allowed the show to be produced since it’s close on Broadway on August 30, 2009, after 685 performances. Disney executives will be viewing The Muny’s production here in St. Louis because they have some potential interest in forming an official national company and touring the show across the United States, and perhaps even overseas.
Veteran performer Paul Vogt, who was last seen on Broadway and at The Muny in the lead role of Edna Turnblad in “Hairspray,” will appear in The Muny’s ”The Little Mermaid” in the role of Ursala. Patti Murin as appear as Princess Ariel.
Our first review of “The Little Mermaid” will be heard on KMOX on Thursday, along with a print review in the Entertainment Section at KMOX.Com.
The show will be on stage at The Muny through July 14.
