A Celebration of Midtown’s Famous Flying Saucer

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Dozens chanted “Save Our Saucer!” Wednesday night, in celebration of the now-infamous funky flying-saucer shaped building at Grand and Forest Park Parkway.

A developer wants to tear down the former Del-Taco restaurant and Phillips 66 gas station, in favor of a new strip mall.

Judith Atteberry lives in the apartments next door and says she’s already heard plenty of empty promises.

Two years ago, she says city officials including alderman “Marlene Davis came here, and they said they were going to put stores in there.”

In same complex as the saucer building, literally a stone’s throw away, those storefronts sit empty.

Aldermen will vote Friday on whether to allow the building’s demolition. From there, the City’s Preservation Board will likely have a say.
