Granite City Man Falls Victim to Heat

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – The Madison County Coroner says it appears a middle-aged Granite City man has died of heat stroke.

51-year-old Mitsunari Uechi was found in his home Sunday night and pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later.  The air conditioning was not operating in Uechi’s mobile home.  The coroner’s office says his body temperature at time of death was 104-degrees.

Officials say he suffered from chronic medical problems that placed him at higher risk for heat-related illness.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
