ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Cardinals’ latest road trip can’t last forever, and Busch Stadium ground crews are working feverishly to get the field ready for baseball.
Unfortunately, the feverish temperatures aren’t helping.
“It’s not the best of times for us to be trying, but this is what the weather delivered and we’re just going to have to make the best of it,” Joe Abernathy, V-P of Stadium Operations, says.
To keep it in tip-top shape, strips of the new sod are being delivered by refrigerated truck and are being installed during the overnight hours.
“It’ll have to start tolerating the heat, and that’s why we’re trying to do it during the coolest part of the day,” Abernathy explains.
The infield, he says, was finished by Tuesday night.
