ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman says the recent hires were essential despite his office being under a hiring freeze.
Zimmerman recently added three new people to his staff, none of which have experience with assessments.
“Its how you get through to a real human,” explains Zimmerman. “Its how we make sure that these folk’s first and last job is taking care of taxpayers rather than looking at houses.”
Zimmerman says out of the 170 people hired at his office none of them are in charge of resolving consumer complaints.
But County Councilman Greg Quinn says the issue isn’t that Zimmerman hired inexperienced people. But rather the “three people that surfaced as the most qualified people are all people who have work on democratic political campaigns.”
Zimmerman says he’s just keeping a campaign promise to make the office more transparent.
