EDWARDSVILLE, Il. (KMOX)-A Centreville police officer, who had previously been fired from another department after a bar fight, is now charged with assaulting a two-year old boy.
44-year-old David Lauer the second of Troy,Il. is accused of hitting the two-year old son of the woman who lives with him.
O’Fallon Police Sgt. Eric Andrews says the woman noticed that the boy had been injured on Monday, after she had left him with Lauer and the child’s step grandfather, “He had bruising on his head…that was the initial injury that prompted the call to DCFS and the trip to the hospital.”
Andrews says the child was treated and released.
Lauer is charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor domestic battery.
In 1998, the Belleville News Democrat reports, Lauer was fired from the Lebanon Police Department after the off-duty beating of a soldier in a Troy bar. He sued claiming he had been fired for union activities. That case was settled.
