Suspect Accused of Starting Fire at Midtown Apartment Bldg

ST. LOUIS–(KMOX)–A suspect is charged in the Thursday night fire that seriously injured one occupant of a midtown apartment building.

Michael Grimes, 49,  of the 39-hundred block of Cleveland,  is charged with 1st degree arson, burglary, assault and property damage in connection with the fire at the Lindell Apartments..

The two-alarm blaze in the 38-hundred block of Lindell left one person hospitalized in critical condition and gutted one apartment unit. 

Court documents allege the Grimes was in a past relationship with the man whose apartment burned.   Grimes is accused of threatening to kill the man, then later breaking into his apartment to set it on fire. 

Grimes also allegedly kicked in a window of a building owned by US Cellular, resulting in more than $750 in damage, court documents claim.

Records show Grimes had past convictions for robbery in 1981, ’84 and ’90.
