ALTON, Ill. (AP) — A Metro-East man is jailed on charges he used a sickle-like gardening tool to attack another man who intervened when the suspect assaulted a woman.
Madison County prosecutors charged 39-year-old Warren Elders of Alton with aggravated battery.
A spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office says Elders was beating a woman in Alton when the victim intervened and was attacked with the gardening tool.
The victim sustained head injuries that required five staples to close.
Calls to a home telephone listing Sunday for Elders went unanswered. It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
Elders is jailed on $25,000 bond.
