ALTON, IL – (KMOX) The man who was struck and killed by a train in Alton last night has been identified as 50-year-old Lawrence Meyer, of Alton.

Madison County Deputy Coroner Roger Smith says Meyer was hit by a Chicago to St. Louis train about 360 feet west of the Humbert Road crossing.

Smith says routine toxicology tests will be performed to check for drugs or alcohol.

An Amtrak spokesman says the 120 passengers and crew on board were not hurt.  Their trip was delayed two hours and 20 minutes.

I was on the train, and they refused to tell us what was going on the whole time. It was quite frustrating really. You’d think passengers would have the right to know that the train we’re on just killed someone.
