Jon Demers
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A former Boy Scout troop volunteer and foster parent is facing more charges of sexual misconduct involving boys.
St. Clair County prosecutors charged 54-year-old Jon Demers of Collinsville on Friday with eight new counts involving his alleged sexual assault or abuse of two boys.
Demers already had been facing a dozen counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving one of those boys and another alleged victim who is now 16.
Demers was removed in April as a Belleville Boy Scout troop’s committee member and merit badge counselor.
Demers’ attorney Robert Bas said Sunday that Demers was arrested Friday and jailed on $1 million bond. Demers previously had been free under electronic monitoring. Bas says he will seek to have his client’s bond reduced.
