Heroin Overdose Death Results in Life Sentence

E. ST. LOUIS, IL. (KMOX) – An East St. Louis man is sentenced to life in prison for a drug overdose death.

43 year old Travis Doyle was convicted back in February in the death of 30 year old Jonathan “J.J.” Ward of Effingham.

Witnesses during the trial testified that Doyle sold heroin to Ward at a crack house in East St. Louis and when Ward collapsed Doyle wouldn’t allow anyone into the home and put frozen meat in Ward’s pants hoping that would revive him.

12 hours later acquaintances finally transported Ward to Barnes where he was pronounced dead.

After the sentencing U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton said “Heroin distributors, such as Doyle, are no better than cold blooded murderers.”
