CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — Police in St. Louis County are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a county patrolman.

The shooting happened Monday night at a service station in north St. Louis County. A man in the parking lot raised his gun at the officer and began shooting, for no apparent reason.

The shots missed the officer and his patrol car. Spokesman Rick Eckhard says the officer shot back but missed.

Police have only a vague description of the gunman.
