MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s running game looks just fine despite losing the entire left side to the NFL in the offseason.
The 11th-ranked Badgers ran for 241 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns in their 51-17 season-opening win over UNLV on Thursday night.
While new quarterback Russell Wilson was the focus, the quiet line play of Ricky Wagner, Travis Frederick, Peter Konz, Kevin Zeitler and Josh Oglesby helped keep Wilson from being sacked and gave him all the time he needed to make big plays.
Wentzville, Mo. native Montee Ball (Timberland H.S.) ran for three touchdowns and caught a fourth, James White added a rushing touchdown and Wilson stole the show with a spectacular 46-yard scramble for a touchdown.
