VALLEY PARK, Mo. (KMOX) – Fire officials remain on the scene in Valley Park, where a blaze that apparently began in a vacant home spread, damaging or destroying several nearby homes.
Firefighters responded to the 600 block of Benton Street early Wednesday morning, and arrived to find flames from the original source — a vacant residence undergoing renovation — spreading to occupied homes on either side.
All of the neighbors were able to get out okay, but several dogs were reportedly killed.
There were reports that response to the fires was delayed because hydrants in that neighborhood have not been functional for some time.
