Heroin Pusher Gets 8 Years

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) A 34-year-old man has been ordered to spend eight years in federal prison for his role in a southwestern Illinois man’s heroin death last year.

Scott Weldon was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.

Weldon pleaded guilty in May to a charge of distributing heroin resulting in the death of 56-year-old David Roth. Both men were from Belleville.

Authorities say Roth drove Weldon and Weldon’s girlfriend to East St. Louis in January 2010 and Weldon bought heroin. Prosecutors say the girlfriend diluted the heroin and injected Roth, herself and Weldon. Roth’s body was found six days later in his home.

The girlfriend was acquitted in the case in August.
