ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — A nationwide roundup of some 3,000 criminal aliens nets over a dozen arrests in Missouri, including a handful from the St. Louis area.

“These are criminal aliens that fall under some sort of state or federal or local violations, for example murder or rape,” said Ricardo Wong, Field Office Director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

No information was available on whether any of the 17 arrested in Missouri have been convicted of any violent crimes, Wong said.

When asked if any of those arrested in Missouri have any links to terrorists organizations,  Wong says they have had no indication of that at this time.

Among those arrested in Missouri — a 37-year old Nicaraguan man in St. Louis convicted of illegal re-entry after deportation.  He faces federal prosecution here.  All but one of the 17 arrested in Missouri are men.

They come from places that include central America, Cuba, Somalia and Sudan.  Locally, the criminal immigrants were picked in Ballwin, Imperial, St. Louis and St. Ann.
