YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is honoring two people who rescued a Missouri woman after she had fallen into the Niagara River last summer.
Corey Ziraldo was operating a boat for Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours last July when he and crew member Brittany Thompson spotted a woman in the water near the Niagara Whirlpool.
Ziraldo and Thompson managed to pull the woman into the boat. Thompson helped resuscitate the woman, 30-year-old Lindsey Burgess of Park Hills, Mo., who has made a full recovery. Burgess says she was hiking with her fiance when she slipped on rocks along the river bank.
Coast Guard officials are holding a ceremony Tuesday morning at the Coast Guard station in Youngstown to recognize Ziraldo and Thompson’s heroics. They’ll receive the Captain David P Dobbins Award from the Coast Guard.
