Governor Appoints New Director of Public Safety

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) – Gov. Jay Nixon has  named former St. Louis County Police Chief Jerry Lee as the new director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

Lee, a 38-year veteran of the St. Louis County Police Department,  retired as chief in July 2009. He will replace former DPS director John Britt, who stepped down from the position last week.

In making the appointment, Governor Nixon said, “Chief Lee has been an invaluable asset for law enforcement in the St. Louis area for several decades, his insight and experience in law enforcement will serve the people of Missouri well as Public Safety Director, and I appreciate him taking on the responsibilities of this position.

Lee’s appointment will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.
