CHICAGO (AP) — Misdemeanor battery charges have been filed against two Chicago high school football coaches in an alleged hazing episode.
The charges were filed Tuesday against 47-year-old Tom Cipriani and 20-year-old Jonathan Manning, coaches at Prosser Career Academy. Also charged were four varsity players.
The coaches are accused of encouraging the players to beat the 14-year-old boy with belts at the school. The alleged incident occurred on Oct. 18.
A CPS spokesman says both coaches are barred from the school and face additional actions. The students also face disciplinary action.
Earlier this month, two football coaches at Chicago’s Fenger High School were removed and the head coach was charged with misdemeanor assault after 20 to 30 teens attacked a 16-year-old Darion Jones and a 15-year-old boy over the alleged theft of flip-flops.
