Sunset Hills , Mo. (KMOX) - Two suspects are in custody — and one has been shot — following a home break-in Wednesday morning in south St. Louis County.
St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard says a call came in for a burglary in progress in the 10,700 block of Leebur Road shortly after 11 a.m., and Sunset Hills officers responded to the scene.
Rick Eckhard says when the first officer noticed someone had forced their way into the home, “He saw what appeared to be the homeowner and a suspect and the suspect had a weapon in his hand. The officer confronted the suspect and a shot was fired and the suspect went down.”
The homeowner was “shaken up” but not physically hurt.
Eckhard says another officer arriving on the scene saw another suspect run behind the home and try to climb a tall fence. The officer caught the suspect. Both suffered minor knee injuries.
Neighbors including Helen Jones, say they don’t think the folks who live in that house were random crime victims. She says they’ve been involved in ‘shady dealings’ for years. She also didn’t trust the people they had hired to work around the home, ”The people that they would employ to work outside and various things around the house, they were very shady individuals.”
