ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – In case you missed it we got the video.
World Series MVP David Freese appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday, and after announcing his retirement in a morning press conference Cardinals manager Tony La Russa caught a plane to New York to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman.
Tony La Russa told the story of the bullpen mix-up during his interview. Explaining that he asked for Rzepczynski and Motte to get ready, but the crowd noise was so great the bullpen coach didn’t hear him say Motte. Or that was just one of several excuses, “Ya know, I made so made excuses to cover my own butt at that time, that I forget exactly which one was true,” La Russa joked with Letterman.
Across the county David Freese told Jay Leno about some of La Russa’s superstitions.
“He’ll ask the trainers for chapstick when he needs something to happen,” explains Freese. “That was just his thing.”
Freese also joked about the team ripping his shirt off. He said that was instigated by Nick Punto.
