Worker Stranded on Smokestack During Inspection

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – An Ameren worker was stuck in an elevator high above the ground on an Ameren smokestack at the Meramec Plant in South St. Louis County.

An Ameren spokesman says the worker was in the outside elevator and never in any danger.  He was performing routine air quality testing on the emissions from the smoke stack when the elevator became stuck.  Initial reports were that the elevator stuck 200 feet above ground.

Ameren called the Mehlville Fire Department as a precaution…and while firefighters were there someone smelled smoke coming from the roof of the Administration building nearby.

Somehow a bird’s nest on the roof had caught fire and was smouldering.
