PINE LAWN, Mo. (KMOX) – A Pine Lawn police officer is hospitalized after becoming sick during a Sunday morning pursuit.

Pine Lawn Police Chief Ricky Collins tells KMOX News the incident began with a car trying to ram a police cruiser during a traffic stop, “The vehicle then came to rest at Maple and Maple Place, where all four occupants bailed out of the car. That officer was in foot pursuit along with several other officers. He had some type of health issue and collapsed on the scene.”

Chief Collins identifies the officer as patrolman Richard Cooper,  who recently joined the force.  Cooper’s undergoing treatment at a St. Louis hospital. His condition has not been released.

Collins says a search continues for the four suspects.
