ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Are the passengers safe, are TSA agents and Lambert employees working together? The answers to those questions led the TSA to honor Lambert as Airport of the year.
Lambert Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge was in Washington D.C. Tuesday to accept the honor. “It’s a different airport than it was a decade ago, and I think we all recognize that,” said Hamm-Niebruegge admitting the honor is a bit surprising.
The airport was given more awards than any other airport in the country. Hamm-Niebruegge wants the public to understand the importance of Lambert to the region.
“Having everybody understand that this is such a critical part of this region and its got to be viewed as an asset and a attribute, not as a detriment to the region.”
A Lambert employee was also honored for carrying a passengers to safety during the April tornado. He received a Heroism award.
