Landowners at Lake of the Ozarks Cry Foul Over Federal Order

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO. (KMOX) – It’s “shocking , onerous and it has to be stopped.”   Thats the way Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler describes a federal order effecting property owners at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has ordered the removal of 4,000 structures around the lake.

“The structures include 1,200 homes, Gazebos, docks, sidewalks, patios and sea walls” said Hartzler.

The representative has introduced a bill titled Land Owners Protection Act of 2011.   It would stop the federal agency from ordering the removal of structures that landowners have title to, and pay taxes on.

She has the support of the entire Missouri Delegation including Senators McCaskill and Blunt.

Representative Hartzler thinks The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission should only have authority over the hydro-electric power plant and not recreational and environmental issues.
