MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (AP) — A young bald eagle recently restored to health at the World Bird Sanctuary in suburban St. Louis is about to go back into the wild.
Officials at the sanctuary said the eagle was scheduled to be released Friday in Missouri River habitat near a water treatment plant. A military veteran, Staff Sgt. Kristy Willis, will release the eagle. Willis is with the Missouri Army National Guard and served in Iraq.
The World Bird Sanctuary frequently takes in injured birds and takes care of them until they are able to return to the wild.
