Illinois Governor Quinn seems still willing to deal when it comes to expanding gambling in the state but he’s also warning the legislature they will have to listen to him if they expect to pass a package.
State lawmakers want to add slot machines to race tracks, including Fairmount in Collinsville. The governor has opposed that idea and claims the public is on his side.
The Illinois legislature returns to work November 29th and could propose a new package to expand gambling.
Quinn told reporters Saturday that if the legislature doesn’t involve the governor, it’s not – in the governor’s words – “going to get to heaven”.
The operators at Fairmount have said it would be difficult for the area’s last remaining race track to survive without the added revenue from slot machines.
