MoDOT to Shut Down I-64 West of PSB Saturday

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  Delays are expected for westbound traffic crossing the Poplar Street Bridge on Saturday.

Deanna Venker, St. Louis area engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation, explains that crews will completely shut down Interstate 64 between the I-55 exit and Jefferson first thing Saturday, forcing westbound PSB drivers to exit off onto I-55 or I-70.

“From there, our signed detour will be getting off at I-55 south, travelling to I-44 west, and then immediately off at Jefferson and back over to I-64,” Venker explains. “In which case you can either exit towards downtown or wherever you’re destination might be.”

She goes on to say that part of this work will also involve partial closures on the eastbound lanes of I-64 downtown.

“A short explanation of what we’re doing: We are jacking up the westbound bridge deck and replacing the bearings,” Venker says. “But in order to do that we have to use the eastbound bridge deck to set the jacks on to jack it up.”

The King and Eads Bridges remain open as alternate routes and all westbound lanes of I-64 will be reopened to traffic at 8 o’clock Saturday night.

The work will be completed rain or shine.
