ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The V.A. Medical Center in St. Louis is now a model for the nation in identifying and treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
They cut the ribbon on the P.T.S.D. wing Friday.
Doctor Shawn O’connor , Psychologist and leader of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder team, says the main focus at the new center is whats called Cognitive Processing Therapy, with techniques in dealing with depression, anger and sleep disorders. He says It was designed by several graduates of the University of Missouri- ST. Louis.
“Cognitive Processing Therapy has gotten such good results with P.T.S.D. that now every V.A. in the U.S. has to have someone who is certified in cognitive processing therapy ” said Doc. O’connor.
Another distinction that sets it apart from other V.A. centers is that it was designed with a lot of input from Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
