Dellwood Aldermen Delay Vote on Police Department and Force Third Meeting
DELLWOOD, MO (KMOX) - Still no vote on disbanding the Dellwood Police Department and contracting with Saint Louis County Police. That’s because for a second time, four aldermen were no shows at tonight’s meeting.
Besides the fate of the Dellwood Police force, the city’s budget is being held up. This is the second meeting that Aldermen James Lovings, Richard Williams, Karen Bober and Donald Haynes have boycotted. City Manager Frank Myers believes it’s because they are showing solidarity with the Dellwood police officers.
City Attorney Donnel Smith says legal action can be taken, that compels public officials to perform their duties. However, Mayor Loretta Johnson has not given Smith the authority to file a legal writ.
Myers is not confident the outcome will be different at tomorrow night’s meeting. The budget expires December 31st 2011. Besides re-scheduling tonight’s meeting to Tuesday evening, there’s a fourth meeting scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30.
As of right now, the Dellwood Police Chief Fred Haunold remains on administrative paid leave. Two Saint Louis County Police Supervisors are overseeing the day-to-day operation of Dellwood Police.
