Study Finds Olive Oil Can Reverse Memory Loss

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — A local study finds olive oil, a staple of the Mediterranean diet, reverses memory loss and improves learning at least in animals.

But there’s no reason to think the results wouldn’t be the same in people. “Its really just suggesting that adding olive oil to your diet along with exercise will reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease,” said Saint Louis University geriatrics researcher Dr. Susan Farr.

In the study mice were fed extra virgin olive oil for two months. At the end of the study the mice had increased learning and memory functions.

Farr says only extra virgin olive oil, not just regular olive oil contains the memory improvement properties. Regular olive oil is processed and has lost most of its beneficial polyphenols.
