EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) – Three city employees are on unpaid leave under investigation for possible criminal wrongdoing.
Two workers with the tax increment financing department connected to demolitions are under investigation. Mayor Alvin Parks was unavailable for comment. But his office sent out a press release warning of “possible infractions of the law.”
“The city had begun an investigation into its TIF demolition program,” said East St. Louis Corporate Counsel Michael Wagner, “It turned up some things that were concerning , and so the city asked for some assistance of some outside law enforcement agencies.”
Wagner would not elaborate on whether it’s a matter of missing money, misspent money or mismanagement .
In addition to the pair of TIF workers, an employee of the East St. Louis police department is also under investigation for an unrelated matter. Wagner had no specifics on that case.
