Teenager Awakens Family In Burning Wildwood Home

WILDWOOD, Mo. (KMOX)-A teen-aged girl visiting her grandparents for Christmas, is credited with helping her parents and grandparents escape their burning Wildwood home early this morning.

Monarch Fire Marshall Roger Herin says, “She woke up to the smell of smoke even before the smoke alarms went off. She immediately got up and alerted the other occupants.”

Herin says the family initially tried to put out the fire in a second floor bathroom of the home in the 19,000 block of Ossenfort Court, “They found it was too big, did the right thing and got out and waited for the fire department.”

Firefighters were able to save the family’s Christmas tree and presents. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
