WILDWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – This week’s arrival of cold temperatures means that Hidden Valley Ski Area in Wildwood will finally be able to open for the season.
The cold snap has allowed crews to operate the extensive snow-making system nearly non-stop to cover the ski runs in a blanket of white.
Hidden Valley now plans to remain open for the season, which runs into early March.
Hidden Valley, one of only two ski areas in Missouri, relies almost entirely on machine-made snow, which it makes whenever temperatures allow.
Ideally, the ski area requires temperatures in the 20’s, along with low humidity.
January 4th is believed to be the latest opening date in Hidden Valley’s 29 years of business.
