ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – There are reports this morning that local businessman and philanthropist Jerry Clinton has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

In 2007, he was diagnosed with cancer, and in 2008 at the age of 71, Clinton wrote his memoir “Accept the Challenge.”

Clinton, a retired Anheuser Busch distributor and founder of Grey Eagle Distributors always had a kind heart. Clinton sponsored the annual ‘Guns n’ Hoses‘ charity boxing tournament. The yearly tournament donates money to the group Backstoppers, which  handles monetary needs for families of first responders killed in the line of duty.

In 2011 Gun n’ Hoses raised $3.6 million. “Kids that have already graduated from college, we have them show up now and then. It’s gratifying to see,” said Clinton at a Backstoppers event in December. ” Otherwise, who knows what their future might have been without a primary breadwinner in their house.”

Clinton was also one of the principal organizers to bring the Rams to St. Louis.

This was a man I looked up to as he was always there for me, a business man, a caring person for the city of St. Louis and everyone around him. He did so much you could never be put into a book. I hope St. Louis will do something to show everyone for years to come what a great person he was.
