ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Did an aide to Congressman Russ Carnahan spill the beans Thursday night about his boss’ plans for re-election?
The official line from Carnahan’s office is — absolutely not.
Carnahan is awaiting a resolution to court challenges of Republican re-districting maps which essentially got rid of his seat. A final word on district lines and boundaries should come by early February.
But at a St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee meeting Thursday, an aide was asked a question about Carnahan’s contingency plans. The response, according to committeewoman Patricia Bynes in attendance, was: ”Umm, I’m not trying to be flippant but he will run in the district he lives in.”
That would indicate running against fellow Democrat Lacy Clay and not switching to run in the adjacent district that Republican Todd Akin is vacating.
But a Carnahan spokesman told KMOX that the aide was misunderstood and that no decisions will be made until all legal challenges to the Congressional maps are resolved.
