ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Missouri’s transportation department wants slimmer lanes to allow for more traffic to flow on Interstate 270 between Manchester and Interstate 44. The department will be expanding by about 8 feet on either side of the road, and narrowing existing lanes by a foot. This will create room for one additional lane. This lane northbound will go from I-44 to Manchester, and southbound from Dourgherty Ferry to I-44. MoDOT says there is no evidence to support that narrower lanes will lead to increased accidents.
Project Manager Tom Evers says this project has already been paid for, and will be done by the end of 2013. He says there are no plans to take down any buildings or homes in the project. A public meeting will be held in Des Peres on Monday, January 30 for public information.
