UNION, Mo (KMOX)-The man accused of killing and dismembering his live-in girlfriend over two years ago in Pacific, has been found guilty of first degree murder.
The jury deliberated about six hours before convicting Vernell Loggins Jr. in the November 2009 death of Stephanie Fields.
The sentencing phase will begin today. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Investigators say Loggins stabbed Fields and left most of her body in a large trash can outside their apartment complex. Fields’ hands and head were found a couple of days later along the Meramec River.
