ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - The Susan G. Komen Foundation has decided to continue donations to Planned Parenthood. Three days earlier, the Komen Foundation announced it would be stopping all dontations to Planned Parenthood locations around the country.
President and CEO of Planned Parenthood for the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, Paula Gianino, says in the three days before Komen reversed its decision, people donated more than $3,000,000. She attributes that to the belief that women’s heath shouldn’t be subject to politics. She says that money will be used for basic costs like supplies.
Gianino says the majority of Planned Parenthood Patients are uninsured women looking for basic healthcare. She says Komen and Planned Parenthood have a very similar agenda; they both want to keep women healthy.
The original annoucement to end the donations came from the national Komen branch, so Gianino says she hasn’t talked with local Komen officials.Though she says it’s been a tough week for Planned Parenthood, she says the organization is relieved at the reversal of the decision.
