ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  A driver who stopped to retrieve something that had fallen from the bed of his pick-up truck was killed after he was struck by a tractor trailer.

It happened just before noon Monday on northbound Interstate 55, which is now closed at Gravois as accident reconstruction crews work the scene.

Eastbound I-44 traffic is being siphoned off at Lafayette, and officials expect that section of highway to be closed until mid-afternoon.

The victim’s name has not been released.
