$7.4M Building Open at Scott Air Force Base

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) – Scott Air Force Base has officially marked the opening of a new $7.4 million building that will be used to train the crews that transport wounded troops.

Officials at the base in southwestern Illinois held a ceremony to open the 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron building on Monday.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the new structure replaces a 70-year-old building that was condemned due to asbestos and mold and inadequate heating ventilation and air-conditioning.

Military officials say the new building includes a training area and student rooms to train more than 150 aircrew personnel each year.

The squadron is responsible for transporting sick and injured troops from around the world, primarily from Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan.
