CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMOX) — A “possessed” Camdenton mother is accused of slitting her 9-month-old daughter’s throat after telling a pastor months ago she was afraid she would kill her baby.
Bradie Simpson, 39, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault for the Feb. 4 incident.
Camden County authorities said they found Simpson and the 9-month-old covered in blood in the woods near her home after a three-and-a-half hour search. Police originally came out to the scene after Simpson’s son reported that he found blood and a bloodied knife in his mother’s bedroom.
According to a Camden County Sheriff’s Office report, Simpson slit her daughter’s throat and then her own. Both were immediately transported to the hospital after they were found for emergency surgery. Deputies also found heroin inside Simpson’s house.
Simpson eerily foreshadowed the incident last October with a pastor at the First Baptist Church in Camdenton.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by KMOX, the pastor told police that Simpson handed the baby to him, said she was “possessed” and was scared that she might kill her daughter.
“She more or less just tossed her baby into my arms and said, ‘Tie me down! Tie me up!’ and said, ‘Possession! Possession!'” Pastor Bob AuBuchon told KYTV.
The station reports that Missouri Children’s Division took the child after that incident but was given back to Simpson after she received treatment.
After battling for her life, the baby girl has been released from the hospital and placed in protective custody. Simpson has been upgraded to good condition.
Her bond has been set at $200,000 cash.
